Options for Selling Guns in Riverside
Cash for Arms
Cash for Arms is a nationally known FFL (federally licensed gun dealer). We buy guns from all over the US and use a 3-step process renowned for its simplicity. It’s so easy that you can even sell your gun without leaving home!
We provide legal and safe sales, as well as perks like free insured shipping all over California. We also pay top market prices for used guns, often outdoing private collectors.
Local FFLs
Local FFLs are often Riverside gun stores like Warrior One at Kansas Avenue and Desperate Measures at Van Buren Boulevard. Some Riverside pawn shops buy used guns too, like Jum-Pawn-It Jewelry and Loan at Magnolia Avenue.
They’re legally compliant and offer up-front cash for in-person transactions. However, they also tend to pay by far the lowest prices for used guns.
Private Parties
You can also sell to non-FFLs, also called private parties. They have to be California residents like you, as well as legally eligible to own guns.
This option can be the most complicated, as you’ll see in our section later on legal requirements. However, it also offers you more negotiation flexibility than most local shops.

Riverside Gun Laws

In Riverside, gun sellers follow federal, state, and local (county and city) laws. But if you’re selling to an FFL like Cash for Arms, you won’t need to worry about them. We’ll handle most of the work.
For private gun sales, you need to ensure compliance yourself. So, most of the notes we’ve gathered below are for private sales. Here are references if you want more details:
- Riverside Municipal Code Article 9
- California Penal Code (PC) Part 6
- California Code of Regulations (CCR)
- ATF California firearm laws compilation
- California concealed-carry laws
- California Attorney General firearm FAQs
- Federal Gun Control Act (GCA)
- National Firearms Act (NFA)
Age (PC 27510)
Riverside private buyers must be at least 21 to buy handguns and at least 18 to buy long guns.
ID (CCR Tit. 11, 4045)
Riverside private buyers have to prove their identity and age with a valid ID. Government-issued photo IDs are often used, such as a California driver’s license.
Residency (CCR Tit. 11, 4045.1)
Riverside private buyers also need to show residency in California. They can do this with documents like recent utility bills or rental leases.
PPT (PC 26500)
PPT stands for private party transfer. It’s the process whereby an FFL transfers the ownership of a gun and is required for nearly all private gun sales in Riverside.
FFLs can charge you money to facilitate your PPT when you go to them. The cost is currently capped at $10 per gun.
Background Check (PC 27545)
Just about all private gun buyers in Riverside need a background check. But since you’re a private party yourself, you can’t initiate the check.
Instead, you have to go to an FFL and pay them to start the check on your buyer.
DROS (CCR Tit. 11, 4200)
The DROS or Dealer Record of Sale is the form your buyer submits to the FFL to start the background check. With some other requisite fees, it costs $37.19.
FSC (PC 31700)
This is the Firearm Safety Certificate, which is considered proof that someone knows how to handle guns safely. Riverside private buyers need it for the DROS process unless exempted.
Waiting Period (PC 26815)
The waiting period before a gun buyer can take delivery of his gun in Riverside is 240 hours. This law aims to reduce impulse gun purchases.
Disqualifications (GCA and PC)
Both the Gun Control Act and California Penal Code prohibit gun sales to certain people, like convicted felons. Take a look at the list for the former here and the latter here.
Prohibited Guns (PC 30605, 33410)
Aside from the usual NFA items, there are also guns prohibited by California, like assault weapons. Even silencers are illegal in the state.
Don’t sell these items here unless you want to hire a Riverside weapons charges lawyer.
