You can sell a gun on Facebook, but only if you’re an FFL or federal firearms licensee. These are people licensed by the government to buy and sell firearms, also called licensed gun dealers.
Cash for Arms is an FFL, so we can sell guns on Facebook. If you’re a private individual (a non-FFL), the platform won’t allow you to sell to another private individual. Facebook calls this a “peer-to-peer” gun sale and forbids it in its policies.

General Questions & Answers
It’s legal to sell a gun on Facebook marketplace if you’re a federally licensed firearms dealer. Facebook doesn’t allow private individuals to sell firearms on the platform.
Facebook used to allow private gun sales, or let non-FFLs sell guns and gun parts on its Marketplace. This and its rules for advertising firearms changed just before 2020. Following the 2012 Sandy Hook shooting and 2015 San Bernardino shooting, there was an increased push for gun control. The platform was also probed by New York State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman around that time for unregulated firearm marketing. In 2018, Facebook stopped showing ads for gun accessories to minors. Today, gun advertising and sale is more strongly controlled on the platform altogether.
There are two main ways to sell a gun on Facebook: become an FFL to be allowed to sell on the platform, or risk a suspension or strike and post “camouflaged” listings on the Marketplace that you can hope gun buyers will recognize as coded listings for guns. If you don’t want to risk your Facebook account or you want a simpler sale, sell to Cash for Arms. We’re likely to give you better prices than you can get even on the private sale market anyway.
You can’t sell a broken gun on Facebook unless you’re an FFL. Facebook bans sales of even broken or non-working guns by private individuals.
