What Affects the Value of a Savage Axis for Sale?
The value of a Savage Axis is affected by its condition, variant, and accessories.
Caliber doesn’t seem to affect the used value of the gun too much. That’s why these versions will often have much the same value if everything else is equal:
- Savage Axis 308
- Savage Axis 30-06
- Savage Axis 223
- Savage Axis 6.5 Creedmoor
- And so on.
Size is the same. Most Axis variants come in both a full-size and compact version, but the prices stay much the same across the two sizes.

Price Factor 1: Condition
Better-condition Savage Axis rifles are worth more. Brand-new ones have the highest value, of course.
If you’re not sure what grade your rifle’s condition is, contact us. We do free appraisals and can help you price your rifle.
If you already know your rifle’s grade, though, you can check out the tiers below for pricing guidance.
New or Mint
Never used, free of marks, and essentially in brand-new condition. Worth up to 90% of MSRP.
Excellent
Used so rarely that they have only a few marks (that you have to work hard to find). Can get as much as 80% of MSRP.
Very Good
Lightly used and very slightly marked, but otherwise in great condition. Can get up to 70% of MSRP.
Good
Used a lot but maintained with care and free from ugly marks. Worth as much as 60% of MSRP.
Fair
Used a lot and never really cared for, so they’re pretty worn. Can sell for up to 50% of MSRP.
Poor
Very marked, worn, and possibly even damaged enough to be non-working. You’d be lucky to get 40% of MSRP for these.

Price Factor 2: Variant
Variant also affects the price of a Savage Axis. The gun comes in several variants as well as generations: the original (Savage Axis 1) and the Savage Axis 2.
The key difference between the Savage Axis generations is the AccuTrigger and improved design.
The first-generation Axis rifles lacked this adjustable trigger and it shows in their prices. They had lower MSRPs and have lower used pricing than the Axis 2 rifles today.
1. Savage Axis 1 (Original)
The average Savage Axis 1 is worth $150 to $180 used.
The original rifle was fitted with a synthetic stock and came in basic black. It had no AccuTrigger and came without a scope as well, selling for around $350 new from stores. Today, it’s discontinued.
2. Savage Axis XP
The average Savage Axis XP is worth $170 to $200 used.
This is essentially the original Axis but with a factory-mounted scope. The included scope was bore-sighted and of the 3-9x40mm type. It sold for about $380 from stores, originally. It’s also discontinued.
3. Savage Axis 2
The average Savage Axis 2 is worth $170 to $240 used.
This is the upgraded version of the Axis, with improved ergonomics, thread-in headspacing, and an updated bolt handle design. Most importantly, it comes with the adjustable AccuTrigger. New from stores, it has an MSRP of $489.
4. Savage Axis 2 XP
The average Savage Axis 1 is worth $200 to $250 used.
This is the Savage Axis 2 but with a factory-mounted and bore-sighted 3-9x40mm scope. A brand-new one can be bought from most stores at an MSRP of $549. You can also get the Savage Axis 2 Pro or cerakoted version for $599 and the hardwood version for about $689.
5. Savage Axis 2 Precision
The average Savage Axis 2 Precision is worth $500 to $600 used.
The Axis 2 Precision is the most expensive version of the rifle, with an MSRP of about $850. It comes with the AccuTrigger, threaded barrel, adjustable comb height and LOP, and AICS mag compatibility. It even has an M-LOK forend and Picatinny rail and the highest capacity of all the variants (5-10 rounds).

Price Factor 3: Accessories
Sometimes, including accessories with the Savage Axis rifle can help you bump up the price a bit. This only applies if you have good-condition and good-quality accessories to add to it, however.
1. Optic or Scope
If you have a good scope hunting scope to add, it can bump up the price of the rifle a little. Given that the Axis is a budget rifle, however, you’ll rarely see it being sold with a high-end scope.
Value: Around 30% to 50% of the scope’s original value
2. Extra Magazines
This is specifically for the Axis 2 Precision variant, which accepts 5-to-10-round magazines.
Value: Around $10 to $15 per mag
