How We Calculate Used Glock 23 Values

Glock 23 value is affected by the gun’s condition, model, upgrades, and accessories. Market trends may also cause the gun’s value to go up or down.

G23 Condition and Value

Glock 23 condition

A used Glock 23 is like all other guns: worth more in better condition.

You can ask us to appraise your gun for free if you want an accurate valuation of it based on its condition. Gun appraisal may come with fees from other firearm professionals, however.

Once you know the gun’s condition grade, use this to estimate the Glock 23’s worth:

How We Appraise Glock 23 Models

Like most other Glocks, the G23 has been through several iterations. It began as a Generation 2 or Gen 2 gun, and has been in production ever since.

The used guns actually tend to have much the same values regardless of generation. Still, it’s worth pointing out the slight differences among them below – as well as the special editions.

Glock 23 Gen 2 Value

Glock 23 Gen 2 worth

The average used Glock 23 Gen 2 is worth $150 to $250 used.

This model sports all the hallmarks of Glock’s Generation 2 guns. The pebble texture is on grip panels instead of wrapping around the whole grip. The straps are also checkered.

These aren’t really seen that often in the used market now. However, they’re not generally collector’s items either, so valuation isn’t very high.

Glock 23 Gen 3 Value

Glock 23 Gen 3 worth

The average used Glock 23 Gen 3 is worth $200 to $275 used. A new Glock 23 Gen 3 sells for about $499 at retail.

Gen 3 adds finger grooves to the front strap, thumb rests at the top of the grip, and an accessory rail. The last is slightly narrower than the rail in later-generation G23s, by the way.

This model’s main selling point is that it’s one of the few handguns legal in California. It’s also still in production.

Glock 23 Gen 4 Value

Glock 23 Gen 4 worth

The average used Glock 23 Gen 4 is worth $230 to $300 used.

The Gen 4 G23s bring in the updated internals and the deeper grip textures. It also sports an accessory or light rail.

Gen 4 Glock 23s are known for having a wide range of magazine options. While they come with a standard 13-round mag, there are mags for 14, 15, 16, 22, and 10 rounds!

Glock 23 Gen 5 Value

Glock 23 Gen 5 worth

The average used Glock 23 Gen 5 is worth $250 to $320. A new Glock 23 Gen 5 sells for $559 at retail.

The Gen 5 Glock 23s are slightly bigger than earlier versions, being about 2 mm wider and 1 mm taller than the Gen 4s. They also weigh more at 34.36 oz compared to the Gen 4’s 31.39 oz.

Gen 5s are generally considered the most refined of the Glock 23s in sheer performance. This may explain why a used Glock 23 Gen 5 will often get more than a similar-condition Gen 4.

Glock 23 Gen 5 MOS Value

Glock 23 Gen 5 MOS worth

The average used Glock 23 Gen 5 MOS is worth $280 to $370. A new Glock 23 Gen 5 MOS sells for$600 at retail.

The G23 Gen 5 MOS is the factory-upgraded version of the latest Glock 23. Its main advantage over the non-MOS Gen 5 is the inclusion of the Glock MOS adapter plate.

This plate allows easy optical sight mounting on the gun. As such, this commands a value premium over the non-MOS. It often retails for $600.

Homeland Defender Glock 23 Value

Homeland Defender Glock 23 worth

The average used Homeland Defender Glock 23 is worth $350 to $420.

This is a G23 not sold directly to the open civilian market. Only select people can buy it, e.g law enforcement officers, emergency personnel, court judges, etc.

The Homeland Defender G23 retails for about $600. You can identify it from a Homeland Defender logo laser-engraved on the right side of the slide.

The gun came with 4 magazines from a dealer. It also boasts GTL10 tactical lights, extended controls, and Trijicon sights.

TALO Special Edition Glock 23 Value

TALO Special Edition Glock 23 worth

The average used TALO Glock 23 is worth $400 to $550, but values and models vary.

The TALO Glock 23s are TALO-branded and modified Glocks. They often come with a third-party coating that produces a polished slide and barrel. However, the exact appearance and application of the slide varies based on the edition.

One of these special editions has a slide that appears golden, for example. Another has a polished-black slide with a jeweled chamber and gold-inlay logo.

These guns were modified entirely for aesthetic purposes, so they don’t have functional differences from other Glock 23s. Most of them retailed for about $700.

This is a model that holds value well. Because it’s a premium firearm in the line, we use a secure gun shipping and buying system to ensure every transaction is fully insured and legally compliant.

How Upgrades Affect What We Pay for Your G23

Glock 23 upgrades

Some accessories can increase used Glock 23 value. The accessory does have to be in good condition, however.

It’s also better for it to be from a known brand. Otherwise, it may not add value at all to the gun. Here are some upgrades and what they would add to a Glock 23’s value estimate.

Magazine Baseplate Extension

These increase both the magazine capacity and the ergonomics of the gun for larger hands. Here are examples:

  • TTI Base Pad for Glock 19/23 - $36.99 new, up to $18 used
  • Shield Arms Mag Extension - $35.99 new, up to $17 used
  • Henning Group EDC Magazine Grip Extension +2 - $32.95 new, up to $16 used

Value retention: Around 30 to 50% of cost

Flared Magwell

These allow easier reloading in urgent situations. Here are examples:

  • Magpul GL Enhanced Magwell for Glock 19/23 - $24.95 new, up to $12 used
  • Tyrant CNC Glock 19/23 Compatible Magwell - $62.96 new, up to $32 used
  • Strike Industries Magwell for Glock G5 19/23 - $19.95 new, up to $10 used

Value retention: Around 30 to 50% of cost

Sights or Optics

A common customization for improving accuracy. Obviously, they’re more common on MOS versions of the G23. Here are examples:

  • Aimpoint ACRO P2 - $599 new, up to $300 used
  • Trijicon RCR - $1,000 new, up to $500 used
  • Trijicon RMR HD - $1,000 new, up to $500 used

Value retention: Around 30 to 50% of cost

Weapon Light

Improves usability in dark settings. Note that having one with a screw mount on older Glocks without the Gen 4/5 guide spring rod can lead to problems with buyers later. It often led to malfunctions on old G23s due to overtorque of the light screw squeezing the polymer!

Anyway, here are examples of weapon lights for the G23:

  • SureFire XC1-C Weaponlight - $389 new, up to $194 used
  • SureFire X300U-A Weaponlight - $379 new, up to $189 used
  • Streamlight TLR-1 HL - $130 new, up to $70 used

Value retention: Around 30 to 50% of cost

Custom Finishes and Engravings

These honestly aren’t all that common on a Glock 23. For most people, the stock Glock 23 finish (basic black) is the only one that they should pay for.

So, you may not find a lot of takers for a custom-finished (e.g. Cerakoted) gun. Be prepared to take a loss on custom finishes unless you get lucky.

Value retention: Usually none to just 30% of cost

How Accessories Affect What We Pay for Your G23

Glock 23 in case

Glock 23 accessories that aren’t upgrades don’t bump up value much. However, in some cases, they can still add to the value – and every little bit helps!

If you have a G23, here are common accessories so you know if you can use them to try and improve your gun’s valuation. Just remember that not all buyers will be interested.

Original Glock 23 Box or Case

Usually more appreciated if it comes with an excellent-or-better-condition G23. It solidifies its value as an authentic, legitimate gun with clear provenance.

Value: Around $20 if in good condition

G23 User Manual

This doesn’t really add value to used Glock 23s, though it can help assure buyers of its legitimacy. Still, most people prefer to download these from Glock now.

Value: None

Spare Magazines

These are usually welcome additions to any used Glock 23! We generally recommend adding these to gun bundle because most buyers appreciate them.

Value: Around $10 apiece

Magazine Speed Loader

Again, these are just functional items that a lot of buyers like. They don’t cost that much even when new, though (about $6), so don’t expect them to add much to your gun’s value either.

Value: Around $2 to $3
